Sono-Coat™ is based on a coating matrix of acoustically reflective microspheres that enhance ultrasound reflection, independent of the angle of the medical device.
As front-runner in echogenic coating solutions Encapson has defined a new standard for ultrasound visibility in imaging minimally invasive procedures. In a comparative study, 60 endoscopists and interventional radiologists performed a blind review of the ultrasound visibility of 10 different echogenic biopsy needles (laser-etched, dimpled, sand-blasted and Sono-Coated™). The Sono-Coat™ needle outperformed (p<0.01) currently available needles and was ranked number 1 in ultrasound visibility. The results have been published in GIE (PMID: 26873530).
Sono-Coat™ technology can be applied to polymer catheters and steel, nitinol or titanium needles. Sono-Coat™ is biocompatible, temperature resistant for ablation therapy and can be overcoated with lubricious, anti-microbial and anti-thrombogenic coatings without loss of echogenicity. Encapson is ISO13485:2016 certified and recently deployed a cutting-edge production unit for the automated application of Sono-Coat™.
